J. Neal Abernathy, President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Abernathy is Swett's President and CEO and leads the Senior Management Team. He has more than 28 years of industry experience, including 23 years with Swett as a property account producer. Prior to being named CEO, Mr. Abernathy served as the company's COO from August 2005 to May 2006. He was also an Executive Vice President and Southeast Regional Manager for Swett. Mr. Abernathy was a retail producer with Alexander & Alexander from 1981 to 1983. He holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Georgia.
Michael S. "Steve" Sadler, Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President of Sales
Mr. Sadler brings a wealth of management experience to this role. The majority of Mr. Sadler's career was spent at Marsh & McLennan, the nation's largest retail insurance brokerage, where in his 29-year tenure he held a series of top-level, national management and sales positions. These included Managing Director; Global Construction Practice Group Leader and Managing Director and Chairman, Marsh Industry Practices. Since 2006 Mr. Sadler has been President of Denver-based 2-10 Home Buyer's Warranty's Builder Group, a new home warranty, extended warranty and insurance products provider. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University.
Terri T. Snell, Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer
Ms. Snell serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. She is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Swett and has been CAO of Swett since 1997. Prior to Swett, she held various production, finance, compliance and IT roles at Alexander Howden North America, a wholesale broker owned by Alexander & Alexander which was acquired by Aon in December 1996. She has more than 30 years of industry experience.
Elizabeth Ann Edelman, General Counsel, Secretary & Executive Vice President
Ms. Edelman serves on the Senior Leadership Team, with responsibilities for Human Resources, Legal Affairs and Licensing. Ms. Edelman has more than 30 years of varied legal and business experience. Prior to joining Swett & Crawford, she was General Counsel for RBC Centura and Royal Bank's Security First Network Bank. Ms. Edelman was also Senior Vice President, Asset Management and Government Relations Liaison for Heller Financial, Inc. Ms. Edelman received her Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University and her JD from Emory University Law School.
Michael Bavely, Chief Financial Officer & Executive Vice President
Mr. Bavely is Swett's Chief Financial Officer and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Mr. Bavely is responsible for the oversight of the finance, accounting, tax and treasury functions. Prior to joining Swett, he was the Director of Finance for Employease, Inc., an on-demand HR/Benefits software provider, which was acquired by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. in 2006. Prior to Employease, he served as Controller for Atlanta-based Cumulus Media Inc., the second largest radio holding company in the U.S. Mr. Bavely holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Indiana University and is an exam passed CPA.
Robert J. Greenebaum, Jr., Executive Vice President - Casualty Practice Group Leader
Mr. Greenebaum is the National Casualty Practice Group leader at Swett & Crawford. He has extensive experience in both retail and wholesale casualty insurance with emphasis on large and complex accounts. Mr. Greenebaum began his career nearly 30 years ago at Marsh. He later joined Corroon and Black (Willis) handling large, hard-to-place accounts. While at Willis, he was named head of Stewart Smith MidAmerica, Willis' wholesale division. He joined Insurance Brokers Service (IBS- which later merged with Swett) in 1997. He also has served as EVP, Central Region Manager and Branch Manager of the Chicago office of Swett prior to taking on his current stewardship of the Casualty Practice Group. Mr. Greenebaum has a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Colorado College and earned an MBA degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Edward A. Magliaro, Executive Vice President - Property Practice Group Leader
Mr. Magliaro leads Swett & Crawford's National Property Practice Group. He has nearly thirty years of experience in all aspects of property insurance including underwriting, wholesale brokerage and reinsurance. His career began at USF&G and has included senior underwriting, brokering and management positions at AIG, Allianz, E&M Associates (his own wholesale and reinsurance firm) and Colonia Versicherun Insurance Group. He has been with Swett & Crawford since 1994, specializing in all property/inland marine lines of business include COC and Technical Risks. Before taking on the stewardship of the Property Practice Group, Ed was the manager of the Swett & Crawford branch in New York City.
Richard J. Martin, Executive Vice President - Energy Practice Group Leader
Mr. Martin serves as the Executive Vice President of the Energy Practice Group. He has 23 years of experience in the insurance business, including 18 years with Swett. Before joining Swett, Mr. Martin served on the Board of Directors for CJP, Inc. From 1990 to 1994, he was a broker for J.H. Blades & Co. Inc. Prior to that appointment, he was a broker for Jenner Fenton Slade Lloyds from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Martin graduated from Southern Methodist University.
Peter Dumas, Executive Vice President - Transportation Practice Group Leader
Mr. Dumas serves as Swett's Transportation Practice Group Leader and oversees two S&C Branch Offices in the Northeast. He has 29 years of industry experience, including 22 years with Swett. Previous to his tenure at Swett, Mr. Dumas was a Senior Partner and Owner of Fort Hill Agency; a Maine-based Specialty Lines Underwriting Manager and Excess and Surplus Lines Broker. He began his insurance career as a Casualty Underwriter at Aetna Casualty & Surety. Mr. Dumas is a graduate of the University of Maine.
Margaret C. Zechlin, Executive Vice President - Underwriting Practice Group Leader
Ms. Zechlin leads Swett & Crawford's National Underwriting Practice Group. She has 30 years experience in all aspects of underwriting and program development in both primary and reinsurance capacities. She began her career at Fireman's as an all lines underwriter. During her career she has worked in various underwriting and management positions at General Reinsurance, Norcal Mutual and Employer's Reinsurance / Swiss Re. Margaret joined Swett & Crawford in 2007 as the Director of Program Development. In 2008 she was promoted to Executive Vice President of the Underwriting Practice Group.
Jason White, Executive Vice President - Professional Services Practice Group Leader
Mr. White heads the Swett & Crawford Professional Services Practice Group. He was the first broker in the company to form a group dedicated to providing specialty resources in specific coverage areas to our retail broker clients. The success of that unit was instrumental in Swett developing a Practice Group structure, the platform on which it now services and expands its business. Mr. White has been with Swett & Crawford since 1991. He was previously with Marsh & McClenan's Finpro unit in London, where he worked as a Lloyd's broker. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Riverside.
Curt Biersch, Executive Vice President - Division Leader
Mr. Biersch serves on the Senior Leadership Team and is an Executive Vice President and Branch Manager/Division Leader. He has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry. Mr. Biersch started his career at Reliance Insurance Companies in property underwriting and held several managerial underwriting positions at Reliance; Cravens, Dargan & Co. and Industrial Underwriters, Inc. He later joined Sherwood Insurance Services and was appointed President of the company in 1987, serving in that role until Sherwood became Swett & Crawford in 2002. Since that time, he has headed up Swett's Western Region and managed the Los Angeles and Woodland Hills offices. Mr. Biersch serves as Division Leader for Swett's West Division. He has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Fresno State University.
Mike Brennan, Executive Vice President - Division Leader
Mr. Brennan is on the Senior Leadership Team and is an Executive Vice President and Branch Manager/Division Leader at Swett. With more than 22 years of industry experience, Mr. Brennan began his career at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. as an Account Executive and then moved to Alexander Howden North America, which ultimately became what is now Swett & Crawford, in 1992. He has served in various capacities at Swett, including Broker, Assistant Vice President, Vice President, Casualty Manager and Branch Manager for the Chicago office. Mr. Brennan has contributed to Swett initiatives in the Casualty Practice Group, including training and recruiting. He serves as the Division Leader for the Swett Midwest Division. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University.
Mike Hamby, Executive Vice President - Division Leader
Mr. Hamby is on the Senior Leadership Team and is an Executive Vice President and Branch Manager/Division Leader. Mr. Hamby has more than 30 years of insurance industry experience. He began his career in 1975 at Aetna Cravens Dargan as an underwriter and then joined Baccala & Shoop Insurance Services, opening the company's Denver office in 1979. He returned to Los Angeles with Interstate National and moved to I-West, which later became Swett & Crawford, in 1983. Mr. Hamby eventually moved to Seattle as Branch Manager and took responsibility for the combined Swett offices in 1987. He was instrumental in reopening Swett's Phoenix office and opening the Bellingham, Washington Transportation office. He serves as the Division Leader for Swett's Northwest Division. Mr. Hamby holds a degree from Cal State Northridge.
Mike Ruhe, Executive Vice President - Division Leader
Mr. Ruhe is on the Senior Leadership Team and is an Executive Vice President and Branch Manager/Division Leader for Swett. With more than 20 years of industry experience, Mr. Ruhe began his career with Alexander Howden North America (now Swett & Crawford). During his tenure, he has held various positions, including Casualty Broker, Casualty Manager and Branch Manager for the Atlanta office. Mr. Ruhe has been instrumental in Swett's sales training efforts. He serves as the Division Leader for the Swett Atlantic Division.
